La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology

PROJECT DETAILS
This 185,000 SF facility is a premier, three-story structure featuring a basement that houses both parking and a state-of-the-art 13,000 SF vivarium. The upper levels are dedicated to a variety of sophisticated environments, including offices, conference rooms, an auditorium, and specialized biology and chemistry labs. Additionally, the facility offers dedicated areas for tissue culture, flow cytometry, and microscopy, among other high-tech functions.
Funded by Kyowa Hakko Kirin, a prominent Japanese pharmaceutical company, this project reflects its deep partnership with the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI). Located within UCSD’s Science Research Park, the university was integral to the project’s development, overseeing regulatory reviews and inspections. DPR Construction served as the General Contractor, with Delawie as the Architect. While the scientific equipment and FF&E were funded separately, their installation was managed cohesively.
Key Expansions and Upgrades:
- – Third-Floor Office Expansion: A 4,000 SF buildout with significant HVAC infrastructure upgrades.
- – GLP Lab Buildout: A 2,500 SF space specifically designed for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) drug testing.
- – Second-Floor Lab Buildout: A 7,800 SF project featuring cascading cold rooms.
- – RNAi Lab Buildout: A 4,000 SF space incorporating multiple tissue culture environments.
This facility represents a seamless blend of innovation, collaboration, and pioneering science, designed to meet the highest standards of research and development.
