La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology: New Facility

PROJECT DETAILS
This 185,000 SF facility is a cutting-edge, 3-story structure with a basement that houses both parking and a state-of-the-art 13,000 SF vivarium. The upper levels are dedicated to a variety of advanced spaces, including offices, conference rooms, an auditorium, and specialized biology and chemistry labs. In addition, the facility offers spaces for tissue culture, flow cytometry, and microscopy, among other high-tech functions.
Funded by Kyowa Hakko Kirin, a prominent Japanese pharmaceutical company, this project reflects their deep partnership with the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI). Located in UCSD’s Science Research Park, the university was integral to the project’s development, overseeing regulatory review and inspections. DPR Construction served as the General Contractor, with Delawie as the Architect. While the scientific equipment and FF&E were funded separately, their installation was managed cohesively.
Key expansions and upgrades include:
– A 4,000 SF third-floor office expansion with significant HVAC infrastructure upgrades.
– A 2,500 SF GLP lab buildout specifically designed for drug testing.
– A 7,800 SF second-floor lab buildout featuring cascading cold rooms.
– A 4,000 SF RNAi lab buildout, which incorporated multiple tissue culture spaces.
This facility represents a seamless blend of innovation, collaboration, and cutting-edge science, designed to meet the highest standards of research and development.
