Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. New Corporate Headquarters
PROJECT DETAILS
This new ground-up development in the heart of oldtown, downtown Pasadena California, now serves as a new corporate headquarters. This 88,000 square foot cast-in-place concrete building is 5-stories tall, with 4-levels of below-grade parking. The building consists of a first-floor research laboratory, second floor amenities block for conferencing and food service, and three working floors.
The project design team consisted of Gensler (Architect – San Francisco), Rockwell Group (Interior Design – New York), Glumac (MEP Engineering – San Francisco), Arup (Structural – San Francisco), Kimley-Horn (Civil – Los Angeles), and Rios Clementi Hale (Landscape – Los Angeles). DPR Construction was the general contractor, based in Pasadena, who managed a separate Core & Shell and Tenant Improvement GMP contract.
The skin system was intricate in that it introduced glass, wood frames, and terracotta. The goal of this skin system was for the building to blend with the historic downtown architecture, while presenting itself as a modern headquarters building. The building structural design was focused on allowing for open floor plates, lending itself to a maximum flexibility for densification, where flexibility and sustainability were common themes. High-end finishes rounded out the interior design, from extensive glazing systems, to high-end furnishings, millwork, and art.
Features of this building include:
- PoE lighting
- PoE door hardware
- Intelligent Building (single pane of glass interface)
- Electro-chromatic glass on interior partitions & skylight
